Planning your dream wedding at The Grand Magnolia House means curating an unforgettable experience filled with grace, gratitude, and Southern charm. One question that often arises as the big day approaches: “Who should we tip?”
Tipping isn’t just about money — it’s a way to show appreciation for the people who make your wedding day seamless and spectacular. Here’s a helpful guide to ensure you express your gratitude the right way.
Why Tipping Matters
Your wedding vendors go above and beyond — from setting up floral arrangements before sunrise to keeping the dance floor lively all night. Tipping acknowledges their hard work and personal care. While not always required, it’s always appreciated, especially for those providing exceptional service.
Who to Tip (and How Much)
Catering & Bartending Staff
If gratuity isn’t already included in your catering contract, plan to tip 15–20% of the food and beverage total or $20–50 per staff member for excellent service.
Venue Staff
At The Grand Magnolia House, we pride ourselves on hospitality. If your coordinator, servers, or on-site staff exceed expectations, $50–$200 total divided among the team is a thoughtful gesture.
Wedding Planner or Coordinator
For your day-of or full-service planner, a tip of 10–20% of their fee (or a flat $100–$500) shows appreciation for months of coordination, crisis-solving, and calm energy.
Hair & Makeup Artists
These artists start your day with confidence and calm. Standard gratuity is 15–25% of the service total.
Photographer & Videographer
Tipping isn’t expected if they own the business, but if they have a second shooter or assistant, $50–$100 each is a nice gesture.
DJ or Band
For your entertainers, tip 10–20% of the total or $50–$150 per musician depending on performance and energy.
Officiant
If your officiant is part of a religious institution, a donation of $100–$300 to the church or organization is customary. For a hired officiant, $50–$100 is appropriate.
Transportation Drivers
For shuttles, limos, or car services, 15–20% of the total fare (if not already included) is standard.
When & How to Deliver Tips
Designate a trusted person — your planner, a parent, or the best man — to distribute envelopes at the end of the event. Label each envelope clearly, and include a handwritten thank-you note for a personal touch.
A Note from The Grand Magnolia House
Every couple’s experience is unique, and so is every vendor relationship. The best rule of thumb: tip when you feel genuinely grateful. A heartfelt thank-you, glowing review, or referral is often just as valuable as a monetary gift.
At The Grand Magnolia House, we’re honored to host weddings where gratitude, elegance, and joy shine in every detail.
